Neil Robertson sets up Stephen Lee clash after ousting Stephen Maguire: 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals
Former World Snooker Champion from Australia, Neil Robertson put up an excellent show at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway, Ireland to steal the semi-final against Scotland’s Stephen Maguire. The Aussie potter defeated the Scotsman by a whitewash score
line of 4-0 to set up England’s Stephen Lee final match up of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals.
The Thunder from Down Under hammered the Scottish potters from the very start of the match and did not let him score even a single frame win. He smashed some outstanding knocks of 110, 45, 84 and 62 to nudge his opponent down in the end. He now feels ready
to take on Lee who defeated compatriot Andrew Higginson in the first semi-final.
Speaking to World Snooker after his victory, Robertson said, “Stephen's got a good record against me but I got off to a good start today and put him under pressure. I'm delighted to be into the final and I have got better as the tournament has gone on which
I always do when I get to the later stages.”
The World Number four added, “It would be great to keep my run of winning finals going. I don't plan on it ending tonight but Stephen is playing really well. If I lose that record then I'll just try to start another run.”
Robertson drew the first blood in Frame one after firing a classy century break of 110 to lead 1-0. Maguire emerged in the next frame but he was pushed down by the Australian who fired a decent break of 45 to move within two frames at 2-0.
The 30-year-old Robertson extended his lead to 3-0 as he pocketed a crucial clearance of 84 points in the third frame. The Scotsman cruised into 23-point lead in the match but missed on red to let the former World Champ come at the table and clear it with
a marvellous break of 62 points.
Robertson is now looking to claim the title beating Stephen Lee in the final clash. The Lee-Robertson final clash will be a thrilling encounter as both potters are on top of their form.
