Neil Robertson trashes Nigel Bond in Round 1 of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Opening day of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament produced some of the best snooker shows at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria.
The snooker lovers of Australia watched a couple of tremendous snooker shows between the leading potters and the rookie challengers who came through the qualifying session of the event that was held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
One of the leading Australian cueman and the former World Snooker Championship winner, Neil Robertson claimed his first victory of the tournament after beating the English potter Nigel Bond by the score line of 5-1.
The clash seemed a piece of cake for the Aussie potter as he breezed into early lead from the start of the match leaving Bond in disappointment.
Bond tried to going deep in the second session of the match but it was no use as Robertson had already taken care of the proceedings to book himself a seat in the second round of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open event. Robertson played sensibly from the
start to dominating the game and push Bond to the edge from where he could not come back to the action.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Robertson said, “I thought I played really well, the first four frames were absolutely exceptional. I could have had four centuries. I made two and had two other nineties. Coming back from the interval I was
really happy with how I was playing.”
The Thunder from Down Under added, “I was trying to get it over with at 5-0 because it was a bit of a late start but Nigel grafted away and won a good frame.”
The first session of the match finished in Robertson’s favour as he hit a 4-0 lead over Bond. However, the Englishman filled his side of the score board with one frame victory but of course that was not enough from his side to stop Robertson. The Aussie,
on the other hand, claimed one more frame to ensure his victory by 5-1. It will be exciting to see how far Robertson can advance in the tournament as he is looking very strong so far in the event.
