Neil Versfeld wins Men’s 200m breaststroke title: Day five - South African LC Nationals
Neil Versfeld of KZNA-KZ won gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on day five of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Friday, April 20.
The 27-year-old Versfeld stayed prominently ahead of his competitors throughout the distant breaststroke discipline. With his stupendous efforts, Versfeld remained considerably ahead of his challengers and faced no trouble in occupying gold medal of the
event.
His scintillating effort remained nearly two body lengths faster from his immediate rival as he clocked a time of 2 minutes and 12.73 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by his teammate, Terence Parkin, who remained 2.90 seconds slower and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by touching the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 15.63 seconds.
The 32-year-old Parkin was chased by his team-member, Rory L Buck, who stayed nearly two seconds behind and hit the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.71 seconds for bronze medal.
The 25-year-old Buck was chased by Kyle M Duckitt of CGA-CG, who stayed nearly one second away from his foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing end as fourth best position holder by touching the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 18.77 seconds.
Duckitt was chased by his compatriot, Kyle B Baxter, who suffered a deficit of almost two seconds from his former finisher and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 20.48 seconds for fifth position.
The sixth spot of the race was secured by Johan G Roth of WPA-WP, who remained nearly 0.70 seconds slower from his former finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 21.19 seconds.
The 19-year-old Roth was followed by Christopher Cowley of NTS-NT, who ended his swim in seventh best place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 22.58 seconds.
Cowley was trailed by Jared C Pike, who secured last position of the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 24.18 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders were called upon the victory stand for awards and accolades at the medal ceremony of the championship.
