The South African born left-arm seamer, Neil Wagner picked up a record five wickets in an over in a first-class game of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 domestic cricket competition. The 25-year-old medium-pacer pulled off this feat during a Plunket Shield season 2010-11 match
played between Otago and Wellington at the Queenstown Events Centre.
Wagner started his memorable over when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Otago-c829’s first innings total of 441-8 declared. However, when the bowler was taking his cap back from umpire after finishing his marvellous over, the scoreboard was presenting a
picture of 136-9.
Neil picked up opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Gillespie-c1904 out on duck. Gillespie was the only batsman who survived for a couple before falling
to the last ball of the terrific over.
The whole Wellington side went back to the pavilion after making 148 in the first innings and Wagner had his career-best figures of 6 for 36.
He continued to bowl well, as he grabbed three more wickets in the second innings of the contest. The whole Wellington team managed to make only 155 runs and eventually Otago won the match by an innings and 138 runs.
Wagner, who has been playing domestic cricket since 2006, has played 44 first-class matches, in which he picked up 189 wickets at an average of 22.75. In 45 List A matches, the left-armer has 72 wickets while in 23 T20 games, he has 25 scalps to his credit.
Neil made an impact in his debut first-class game in 2006, taking two-four wickets hauls. In his opening season for Otago during 2008-09, Wagner took 21 wickets.
Wagner has fascinated everyone in the game by making such a unique performance, which has never been done by anyone before.
The previous best performance produced by a bowler in an over in New Zealand was in 1929-1930 when English player Maurice Allom picked up four wickets in five balls in a Test match against Kiwis.
