Neil Walker intends to stay with the Bucs – MLB News
Neil Walker is back.
Endowed with talent, and known for consistency, the Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Neil Walker was once again in news on Saturday, December 15. The player spoke about a few subjects that are really important to team and him.
Back injury had pulled him off from the 25-man roster during the season as he was batting .290, bolstering the Pirates offence. With his injury, and removal from the roster, the Pirates could not quite retain their ground, and had a disappointing second half of the season.
However, having passed that phase now, with complete offseason routine these days, Neil Walker is all set to make a comeback.
There are talks about the arbitration these days as well. Neil Walker has four years of arbitration. He is said to have spoken about multiyear deal with the Pirates. But it all certainly depends upon how things go from here.
"We haven't had much dialogue," Walker said. "I'm anticipating maybe we will. It's purely the business side. They've got to do what they've got to do. In my opinion, if I go out and stay healthy and play like I'm capable of playing, I'll get what I should get.”
While other subjects remain equally important for the Pirates in the offseason, this has also commanded attention. The Bucs have kept their focus on it; but no official announcement has been made in this regard.
Walker, on the other hand, is inclined to stay with the team. Knowing the organization well, and adjusted well throughout these years, this provides him an ideal environment to play and grow professionally.
"I don't think there is a better fit for me than this organization," he said. "There's no better guy to have around for a long time than me. I grew up here. I know what it means to be a part of this organization, to be a fan of it. I've gone through that whole thing. I'm also the longest-tenured guy in the organization."
To be seen from here is how the Pirates go about this subject; one that remains as important as any other.
