Nelson Heg and Teo Ee Yi favourites in Asian Junior Championships 2011 – Badminton News
Malaysia’s Boy’s Doubles pair, Nelson Heg and Teo Ee Yi, will be the favourites in the Asian Junior Championships 2011, which will take place in Lucknow, India from July 2 - 9.
The Boy’s Doubles coach, Kim Hock said that Nelson and Teo Ee are in a wonderful form and the duo is performing quite well in the training sessions.
Hock said, "Our main bet is Nelson-Ee Yi who have been performing well and I am looking forward to seeing them win the boys' doubles.”
He further added, "We can field a maximum of six pairs if the tournament was held in KL. I have five more pairs who are about of the same level and they are good enough to reach the last four. We will select three pairs for the Asian Juniors and a decision
will be soon."
At first, the venue for the championship was Pune, but now it will be held in Lucknow where the famous annual invitational event of Syed Modi International championships takes place.
There were many rumours that the venue for this Junior Championship will be Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but the Badminton Asian Confederation has made it clear that the event will take place in Lucknow on the scheduled date.
Nelson and Teo Ee are willing to deliver their best against the best pairs of China, Korea, Indonesia and India.
In the Boy’s Doubles, Malaysia has a strong pair but in the category of Mixed Doubles, there will be no competent shuttlers to raise the Malaysian flag in the Junior Championships. The former couple of Tan Aik Quan and Lai Pei Jing cannot participate in
the championship as the later has become over age limit.
However, another pair of Nelson Heg and Shevon Lai Jemie will try to shine in the Mixed Doubles category. However, the duo is not as competent as compared to the top couples of China, Korea and Indonesia.
Malaysia has no considerable shuttler in the category of Boys’ and Girls’ Singles, who can compete against the top athletes from China. However, Nelson and Ee Yi have got an opportunity to win the Boy’s Doubles title in the event.
