Timo and Nakajima are doing far better relatively in their resepctive teams alongside senior drivers. Who Renault will hire to replace Piquet?

Also do you think Force India's expressed target to reaching Q2 will be realised this season? What about their 2010 podium target?

  1. 1. Piquet has a rubbish car to contend with. He was still fastest in testing in Barcelona on Saturday. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/14062008/1...

    2. Glock has a basic problem: he isn't very fast. Few mistakes, sure...but he should be beating a driver like Trulli every single race.

    3. Crashajima is NOT doing well compared to Rosberg. Sir Frank must be delighted that his team get so much exposure in Japan, because he's not getting much else out of the deal.

    4. Renault won't replace Piquet. Not this season, probably not next season either. Comparisons to Hamilton are unfair; Piquet hasn't gone straight into the best car on the grid, nor has he had a decade of McLaren support and influence on his career. As Hamilton showed in Canada last weekend, he's hardly the finished article either...

    5. Alonso is the best driver in the world and he is also struggling with a rubbish car. As with Piquet, his best race of the year was in Barcelona...not a coincidence.

    6. Force India will need to employ better drivers if they are going to progress much further.

  2. i dont think theyll hire anyone. if you look back to last season at kovi then he wasnt much better. i do repect him, but he was c**p up until canada because he was over-excited. i think piquet will realise his mistake and he can only get better from now.

    COME ON NELSON PIQUET JN

  3. *Nelsinho is a good driver,he is just learning how to struggle in a bad car,I think its the great thing to start a career in a weak team and then progress (not like some people who jumped in the best car and think they are the greatest),also Renault is not as good as it is thought, its average should be around 12th place,it's just Alonso who is taking 120% from his car!!!

  4. As long as they have Alonso, they need a crappy second driver, because Fernando can't deal with real competition

  5. Can everyone please give Piquet a break. He's really fast, but he really is suffering from lack of confidence, the same thing happened with Heikki last year, it was sad to see him leave, but he went to a team with a faster car in the end.

  6. X-Factor.

The French are VERY nationalistic.  Anyone who thinks they would not leap at the chance to have Seabass on the team, is drinking the koolaid!

  7. Piquet Jr has been utterly rubbish. It's appalling. But I don't think it's 100% his fault. The car has to be blamed as well. The Renault isn't that good and he might not have found a way to work around it like Alonso. Put him in a better car and we ma see an improvement.

Well, Trulli has been doing a good job too. It's just that during the last race, Glock did better. Rosberg, dunno what's up with him. But over a longer period, I think he willl still do better than Nakajima.

I thought Force India have gotten into Q2 with Fisi this season? If I'm wrong then they might make it later this year. Not too optimistic about it. If everything works out well, then they will achieve their podium target. But they also have to get better drivers

  8. He's had a terrible start to the season so far.

I expected it because when looking to get Fisi's seat last year he developed a big mouth.

Maybe he was right to do that in order to get the job but I have a feeling he believed it when he said he's as good as Lewis and was shocked to find out he couldn't get anywhere near Alonso.

His excuses concerning his luck of knowledge of the tracks and lack of seat time in testing in between GPs make sense, the little things that can make a world of difference, however F1 doesn't care much for excuses because every driver there has to perform to certain expectations and Nelson hasn't been doing it.

Kovalainen last year put a very bad start in a difficult car behind him which is expected of Piquet too.

Against a double world champion he'll have his work cut out for him though, if he can at least get a lucky break or something, maybe he can relax and up his game.

I would like to see an F1 team show some belief in it's choices and develop some patience for a change, you get a feeling he'll get the axe any moment which I hope is not true, I believe if he gets a race season under his belt he'll be good in that Renault next year but I hope Flavio sees it that way too.

  9. 1. Piquet has had a terrible start, though the Renault is hardly a good car and the team is probably more focused on Alonso ( who is out performing the car).

Piquet Jr is talented, he proved that by giving Hamilton a very hard time in the GP2 series in 2006 but he needs to drive more steadily, even if it means going a tiny bit slower, just to get a few more race finishes on the board.

Piquet should be kept to the end of the season but if he hasn't scored say 4 points by Brazil, then maybe he should call it a day.

    2. Glock is fast but sometimes switches off and crashes all by himself, like at Australia and any of his 3 spins at Monaco. He is an equal of Trulli ( who I still hold in high regard) when Glock can keep it together, I think its 50/ 50 if we see him next year, though 2 more points scoring drives wouldn't go amiss.

    3. I don't think anyone in the world expected Nakajima Jr to of done well this season but I think he is acquitting himself nicely, 3 points finishes and embarrassing Rosberg occasionally in the process. A lot more than a paycheck for Williams.

    4. Force India have improved quite a bit over last seasons Spyker out fit, helped by Fisichellas knowledge of set up and V J Malayia wallet but since Super Aguri have disappeared I think they will struggle to reach Q2, unless its wet.

A podium in 2010? Who knows....

  10. i think Sutil, Vettel, or even Bourdais are far more better than Piquet Jr.. He's carrying only the name of his great father and talent was not inherited.

    A failure for Renault...

  11. It's been rumored that Piquet would be replaced for the French GP if he didn't bring results in Canada. So............

...he'll be replaced before season ends. By who? Idk, could be Glock or Nakajima. Anyone else is better. Nelsinio is a disaster on wheels, literally!!!

  12. I think the only thing keeping him from being replaced right now is his name, or some sort of sponsorship deal that brings extra funds to the team.  Sure it's a rubbish car but we've seen it put up some pretty good lap times during a race.  It's him that's not consistent and it's him that keeps making all those mistakes running into the gravel and spinning out.   Sr. must have some dirt on Flavio or he would have been replaced by now. Not even Heikki did as bad as this last year.

Glock has put up impressive testing times but he's no good in a race.  Nakajima isn't that much better but he does keep improving with every race.

Force India have made some big improvements, unfortunately, the other teams have also all made big improvements which means they are still in last place and don't have much of a chance in getting into q2.
