Nemanja Vidic agrees to a new deal at Manchester United

Nemanja Vidic, who had been the topic of debate surrounding his move away from Manchester United, has finally ended the speculation by agreeing a long term contract extension. David Gill the Chief Executive of United confirmed the news.
The Serbian captain joined Manchester United back in 2006 for 7 Million pounds from Spartak Moscow. Ever since coming to United Vidic has formed one of the most tight-fisted defensive partnerships alongside Rio Ferdinand.
Vidic was strongly linked with a move away from United; there was interest from several clubs. The strongest contenders to get his services were Real Madrid but his agent earlier had denied any official approach from Real Madrid, and had said that Vidic is concentrating on his season at United.
David Gill told Manchester United’s official television channel MUTV that even though nothing has been signed as yet, but Vidic shook his hands and the deal is done. Gill added that the paper work will be completed once the season starts in August.
The decision by Vidic to extend his time at Old Trafford will be a big relief for Ferguson, because his other main defender Rio Ferdinand is also not 100% fit just yet.
Rio Ferdinand is on a recovery trail following a knee injury; he injured himself just days before the start of World Cup in South Africa and missed the chance to lead England in the mega event. Rio is expected to be out for the first few games of the upcoming season.
Ferdinand has also been suffering from other problems; he was having trouble with his back and groin at the end of last season.
Nemanja Vidic has been at United for 4 seasons, has won 3 Premier League titles and the Champions League once. Vidic also managed to win three league cup trophies with the Red Devils.
David Gill after confirming that Vidic is staying said that, yes there was a lot of speculation surrounding Vidic’s future. He added them most of that were just rumours and it is the media that hypes up the things more than they actually are.
Gill went on to say that the rumours regarding his alleged move were definitely not leaked from Old Trafford, and neither did Nemanja instigate them. Regardless, he said all of that is in the past and the whole club is ecstatic to have him at the club.
Nemanja Vidic was the member of Serbia’s World Cup team that failed to qualify for the final 16 of the world cup. His team though did manage a shock 1-0 win against Germany in the group stages.
David Gill while commenting on the central defender said that, at the end of last season members of Manchester United board sat down with Nemanja and his advisor. He added that they had a good meeting but things were left in the air as he went for the World Cup. Gill went on to say that he was never in doubt that Vidic will stay, and he was in talks with the Serbian as soon as his team was knocked out of the World Cup.
Gill reiterated that the nothing has been singed as yet, but those are just formalities that will be completed soon.
David Gill said, now that the Vidic issue has been resolved, the club is focusing on securing a long term contract for Wayne Rooney. The England striker has 2 more years left on his contract but United are determined to keep him for a long time. Wayne Rooney scored 34 goals for Red Devils last season, and since his arrival at the club he has been as the forefront of United’s plans.
