Nene Hilario all set to part ways with Denver Nuggets – NBA Update
Nene Hilario has been the part of the Denver Nuggets setup ever since he was drafted as the seventh overall pick in the 2002 NBA draft.
Over the years, the Brazilian star has been a reliable option in the paint for the Nuggets. He is tall, aggressive and incredibly athletic for a centre, however, it seems like he has had enough of the Bronchos. Nene’s contract
with the Denver Nuggets expired at the end of the 2010-2011 and he is now a free agent, perhaps one of the, if not the most, valuable options this off season. The other available big this year is Dallas Mavericks centre Tyson Chandler and while he has indicated
his desire to re-sign with Dallas Mavericks, Nene is planning a shift.
The reason for this affinity, as per Nene, is the lack of recognition he has received at the franchise all these years. According to the sources, Denver Nuggets did offer a four-year extension to the Brazilian which would have
earned Nene approximately 50 million dollars.
However Denver did so after taking a lot of time and kept him in the dark all the time. Now when the franchise wants him to re-sign, Nene is willing to comply.
While giving an interview to Yahoo Sports, Nene mentioned that he was disappointed with Denver Nuggets’ decision to make an offer so late.
"I learned last season that this was a business. No matter how nice you are to people, no matter how nice people are to you, this is a business. I did my best for the team and they waited and waited to extend me. I was like, ‘Oh,
OK, all these years playing good, doing your best and they still test you.' That's not about family, love and somebody liking you. It's a business.” Nene said.
This effectively means that Nene wants to sign with a team where he is given respect and an opportunity to win the NBA title.
Six NBA teams have already registered their interest to land the big man which includes Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets, Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks.
