Question:

Neo-Feminism?

Feminism used to be about equal rights and all that good stuff.

But now feminism seems more like misandry, and allowing people to behave in very crude ways but make justify it through the guise of "sexual liberation"

Do you believe that neo-feminism is really a good thing?

  1. Women's rights have come a very long way in the last hundred years.  While equality is eqaul, neo-feminists fighting to push down men are really ruining their mainstream movement.

The "sexual liberation" movement of feminism is also complete BS in my humble opinion.  Feminists themselves can't even agree on it.

Take stripping for example.  Some feminists claim its empowering to women and is completely acceptable. . . . however, anyone who's half sane can see the obvious flaws of this logic.  Stripping isn't empowering, its degrading.  Men generally do not respect the strippers they are oggling over.  I think the "sexual liberation" feminists just refuse to condemn the obviously flawed behavior of some women, and so seek to justify it.

    That's my two cents.

  2. I'm a feminist, and the WORST thing feminists can sometimes do is say that they're above men. That is NOT what feminism is about. It's about being equal, and living in peace. No gender, race, person, etc, is better than another. So no, neo-feminism is not a good thing to me.

    ~ God Bless! :)

    Edit:

"Take stripping for example. Some feminists claim its empowering to women and is completely acceptable. . . . however, anyone who's half sane can see the obvious flaws of this logic. Stripping isn't empowering, its degrading."

--Amen to that! There's this book I read called 'Female Chauvinistic Pigs' that went over exactly that.

  3. The problem is actually a confusion over what equality should entail. This is a racial, gender and even class issue.

Equality is just a gauge to when things are level. So it's equality to have equal rights, it's equality to have equal opportunities and it's equality to have equal outcomes.

By definition the "state of being equal"

The thing is because you're treating equality as a concept you can justify any of those things. So why is it that not all feminists agree that equal outcomes should be advocated for yet equal opportunity and rights should be?

The reason why equal rights and opportunities are so widely accepted is because they are equitable (fair). Similarly it is inequitable (unfair) to give people equal outcomes straight away (that's communism) UNLESS they achieved it through the equitable means of equal opportunity.

However, noteably south africa, because of this focus on equality as a concept has passed laws saying that there must be race quotas for sports teams i.e. give them equal outcomes. This is equality gone wrong. Because you're not judging them based on WHAT they are (human individuals) but based on WHO they are (blacks and whites). That's discrimination in itself

We should advocate equity because it is about treated everyone irrespective of who they are fairly and impartially.

Equality can never work, it leaves too much room for interpretation
