Hey, I don't know a lot about fish so, can I put feeder fish, like the .5 - 1 inch long, orange fish that wal-mart sells to people to feed to to their carnivorous pets, with neon tetras? If so how many to a 10 gallon tank?

  1. yeah you should be fine, i used to keep mine in a separate tank but they should get on fine with neon's, but not sure on gallons i work in liters but i would say lots

  2. Those 28 cent feeder fish are common goldfish that get to be 12 inches long. They are also coldwater fish and neon tetras are tropicals. Not a good mix. They also make a lot of ammonia. One= goldfish needs 20 gallons of water. I would look for a different kind of fish. Maybe some platys?

  3. They wont bug eachother. But you might not like them. There usually Low-quality guppies, Small cyprinids, particularly rosy red minnows and goldfish, Unwanted livebearer and cichlid fry,  Female Siamese fighting fish , Young tilapia , Defective and weak fry,  && Young Bluegill. So they might die very quickly.

  4. The feeder fish are actually goldfish. Goldfish are coldwater fish, whereas neon tetras are tropical fish (they need water temperatures of around 78 degrees F), so they will not do well in the same tank. Also, the goldfish grow to be quite large and need a minimum of 20 gallons per goldfish.

Platys and neon tetras will get along fine, but don't put more than 6 fish in your tank otherwise you will overcrowd it. I would do 3 neon tetras and 3 platys. Neon tetras cost about $1.99 and platys are about $1.50.
