Nepal U19 250 (49.3 overs) v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vanuatu-c3038 U19 91 (30.5 overs) -
Nepal Under-19s won by 159 runs
Nepal Under-19 secured an emphatic victory against Vanuatu Under-19 in the ongoing International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers.
The game which was played at YMCA Cricket Club, Dublin, saw Nepal take a 159-run win over Vanuatu by posting a target of 251 runs for the opposition to chase.
After winning the toss, Nepal chose to bat first in a bid to take an early lead against their rivals and then restrict them below a competitive tally.
While the opener Sagar Pun showed good touch with the bat, his opening partner Fajlur Rahman could only muster five runs off seven deliveries as he was given leg-before-wicket in the sixth over off the bowling of the 15-year-old Nalin Nipiko.
It was then the number three batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naresh-c78656 Budayair who crafted a spectacular partnership with his fellow batsman Pun as the players smacked the bowlers at will, humbling the bowling offensive.
They put 76 runs in the second wicket partnership which later turned out to be the highest partnership in the match.
On the penultimate delivery of the 22nd over, Pun finally lost his wicket by getting run-out after playing a staggering knock of 51 runs off 66 deliveries. At the time of his departure, the team had scored 103 runs for the loss of two wickets
In the 31st over, Budayair while trying to go over the top was caught by Kalworai off the bowling of Jaxies Samuel. The batsman walked back to the pavilion after completing 50 runs off 87 deliveries.
Later in the innings, Rajesh Pulami Magar and Bhuvan Karki added 23 and 20 runs to help the side reach a tally of 250 runs to give their bowlers a fighting chance to win the game
On the other hand, Vanuatu’s bowlers were not impressive because of giving 44 extra runs which actually helped Nepal build a tough total.
Meanwhile, coming on to bat, Vanuatu needed a steady start to win the game in 50 overs, however, their opening pair struggled to get the game going as both batsmen failed to time their shots. The lack of stroke playing resulted in the wicket of opener Callum
Blake on nil after facing 19 deliveries. The batsman was clean bowled by K Karki in the eighth over.
In his next over, Karki struck again by removing the number three batsman Kendy Kenneth who had his leg-stump uprooted after scoring three runs off 10 deliveries.
The bowler wasn’t done yet, as on the last delivery of the 12th over he grabbed the wicket of Ronald Tari who was given leg-before-wicket on a duck after he had faced six deliveries.
After Krishna Karki it was time for Bhuvan Karki to shine as he removed Samuel on 13 runs off 40 deliveries by getting the batsman adjudged leg-before-wicket on the second delivery of the 13th over.
From Vanuatu, Nalin Nipiko was the only batsman who exhibited some resistance against the opposition as he stayed unbeaten after scoring 36 runs off 52 deliveries. However, none of the lower-order batsmen could provide commendable assistance to him which
resulted in the demise of Vanuatu as the team faltered after putting 91 runs in response to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965’s tally.
B Karki was named as the man of the match for scoring 20 runs and taking two wickets in six overs by conceding only nine runs.
