A five-wicket haul by Chad Soper, followed by Lega Siaka’s steady century at the top, enabled the Papua New Guinea Under-19s to clinch a comprehensive 8-wicket victory over the Nepal Under-19s in their http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup warm-up match, played today on
August 7 at the Albury Oval in Brisbane.
The Nepal U-19s won the toss and skipper Subash Khakurel (68) chose to bat first, opening the innings with Pradeep Airee (25). Their partnership lasted till the 7th over and yielded 44 runs, after which Airee was dismissed by Raymond Haoda.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naresh-c78656 Budayair (6) and Prithu Baskota (1) followed soon after, the former dismissed, lbw, by Norman Vanua, while the latter retired hurt.
Nepal underwent a complete middle and lower order batting collapse after that, save the innings of Hasim Ansari (81). Soper (7.3-2-22-5) snapped up Sagar Pun (3) and Rajesh Pulami Magar (4) before they had time to settle in at the crease. However, skipper
Khakurel and Ansari managed to set up a 90-run partnership which got their side up to 167 by the 33rd over.
Khakurel was finally dislodged from the crease by Alei Nao, and the mediocre batting performances continued, as Fajlur Rahman (5) was sent back to the pavilion by skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charles-Amini-c49702 in the 37th over.
Soper stepped in to take care of the remainder of the Nepalese batting order – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bhavaraju-Avinash-c47993 Karn (1) saw the Nepal U-19s finishing at 213, all out, by the 44th
over.
Papua New Guinea, meanwhile, breezed through their chase, reaching 214 at the expense of 2 wickets, with 57 deliveries remaining, courtesy a massive 106 by opener Siaka.
His opening stand with Vagi Oala (35) yielded 77 runs, and following the dismissal of the latter by Vishvakarma (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965’s only wicket-taker for the day, with 2 for 40) Siaka went on to establish a 126-run stand with Christopher Kent (55).
Vishvakarma succeeded in claiming the prized wicket of Siaka in the 38th over, but by then it was too late for Nepal. Papua New Guinea had already reached 203, and all that was needed was an extra burst in the form of an unbeaten 11-run partnership
between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 and skipper Amini (6) to enable the team to secure their win.
