Nepal v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saudi-Arabia-c3000 – Asian Cricket Council Trophy Elite 2012 (Group B) – Match Update
A dominant Nepal claimed an emphatic 9-wicket win over Saudi Arabia in their Group B match during the ongoing Asian Cricket Council Trophy Elite, 2012, played at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imtiaz-Sheikh-c64290 Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on October 7.
Nepal won the toss and elected to field first, and their bowlers proceeded to launch a swift attack, led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shakti-Prasad-Gauchan-c89575 (10-2-14-2), which was characterised by both parsimony
and a steady fall of wickets. In response, the Saudi Arabian batsmen only managed four double-digit scores in total.
Opener Mohammad http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Suhrab-Kilsingatakam-c91687 (5) were all dismissed without having put up much of a fight.
However, coming in at number 5, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Nadeem-c77112 (19) not only managed to reach double figures, but also joined Mohsin for the highest partnership on their side – a 33-run stand for the 4th wicket. Their efforts got the team up to 59 by the 22nd
over, after which Mohammad Nadeem was trapped lbw by Karki.
Mohsin followed suit in the very next over, dismissed lbw by Gauchan, and while skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nadeem-Al-Nadwi-c78393 chipped in with a double-digit score, his contributions did not have much impact. Out of the remainder of the batsmen, Ifthakar Ali (28*) was the only
one who managed to make a significant contribution – the rest crumbled in the face of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965’s onslaught, and by the 49th over, Saudi Arabia were all out at 131.
In response, Nepal needed just two solid partnerships to chase the total down successfully within 14 overs. Wicketkeeper batsman Subash Khakurel (35*) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumar-Mandal-c44736 (29) opened the innings for their side and set up a 52 run partnership. Their time at the
crease, however, came to an end in the 8th over, with Mandal bowled by Mohammad Nadeem.
Despite the dismissal, Player of the Match http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gyanendra-Malla-c61015 (61*) ensured that the team kept moving forward, and his unbeaten 81-run stand with Khakurel got Nepal safely up to 133, with 9 wickets and 221 deliveries still remaining.
