Nereid will make her seasonal debut in the Wilshire Handicap at Hollywood Park
The 4-year-old Eric N. Kronfeld owned filly, Nereid, is ready to make her 2012 debut in the Grade 3, $100,000 Wilshire Handicap when she returns to Betfair Hollywood Park on the venue’s turf course on 29 April, 2012.
John A. Shirreffs trained filly will go up against seven other 3-year-old and above fillies and mares to run over a distance of one mile.
The last time Nereid was at Hollywood Park, she ended up in a dead heat with, Cambina, in the Grade 1 American Oaks on 16 July, 2011, at about 1 ¼ miles on turf under jockey Joe Talamo, as the winning time for the race was recorded 2 minute and 1.46 seconds.
Prior to sharing the Grade 1 American Oaks with Cambina, Nereid was coming off two back to back wins, as she broke her maiden at first asking at Hollywood Park turf course at about 1 1/16 miles, and over the same venue and the same track, she was cut back
in distance to a mile, as she won an allowance race on 2 June, 2011.
The Kentucky bred daughter of Rock Hard Ten, was then sent to Del Mar to participate in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks at about 1 1/8 miles, where she finished third to, Summer Soiree, on 20 August, 2011.
Out of Belong To Me mare Dowry, Nereid capped off her 2011 season with a third place finish in the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup also at 1 1/8 miles on turf at Keeneland, but she fell away in the stretch to finish third behind Marketing Mix and Together, who
finished second and first, respectively.
Nereid has taken some time to take a shot at her first start of the season, and since 28 February, 2012, trainer John Shirreffs has helped her post nine published workouts over the cushion track at Hollywood Park.
Jockey Joe Talamo has ridden the filly for all of her 6 career starts, but Mike Smith comes in to replace him, as the pair drew post number 3 for the Wilshire Handicap.
Nereid will go as the 121 pound high weight, as Joe Talamo has been named to ride Briecat who will break from the rail in 1 mile long turf course.
