Question:

Nerves While Swimming?

by  |  earlier

I am a competetive swimmer, and been one for 5 years.

For some reason, I recently have been getting so nervous before my events at meets, I feel like I am going to pass out.

My heart feels like it is going a mile a minute and I get dizzy.

How do I calm my nerves before an event? I have a huge swim meet coming up soon.

Thanks, K

  1. Think that no matter what you gave it your best shot! That should calm you down.  If it doesn't go talk to your coach about it b4 every race and see if they can help you calm down.

  2. Sit down........don't think about potentially losing......think about positive things.....or things that calm you down....

  3. listen to music

  4. I'm also a competitive swimmer and have a huge meet coming up this weekend. Here are some things that help me before my races:

    Think to yourself:

What is the wort that can happen? So what if I don't win this one race. The worst that happens is that I get one bad time. What will worrying do for me? All I can do is swim the fastest I can, and whatever happens happens. I have swam this before and I can do it again. It's not that hard.

Or try completely distracting yourself by talking to a friend (rambling on and on about something random works great) or listening to music. Good luck at your meet, I'm sure you will do great. Hope this helps.

  5. dont worry i get like tht to sometimes.. and my coach tells me when your nervous about things it means you care about wht your doing... my advice is to listen to music or warm up with a friend strech or just take deep breaths or w.e. ur comfrotable with!!!

good luck im sure youll do aweesommmee
