Question:

Nervous 19 month old baby?

My little daughter is 19 month old and every time she is happy with a new toy or she is with other children, she behaves very nervous in a way that she puts her hand in front of her mouth and the other hand on top and she makes repetitive movements twisting her hands.

Has anyone else had a baby with a similar issue and how long does this phase usually last.

The paediatrician told me to ignore it and she will stop doing it eventually.

Thanks for your answers.

  1. I would just ignore it as the doctor said. You could be interpreting her "nervousness" wrong and it just could be the way she shows excitement. Another thing you could do is introduce her to the toy and show her what it does and how to play with it. She will feel happy that mommy is excited too.

  2. I would have my child evaluated at a pediatric clinic by an Occupational and Speech therapist.  It does not sound like normal developmental behavior to me.  I am not a pediatrician, but I have worked as an OTA in pediatric Occupational and Speech clinics.  As a parent I will tell you the sooner you have her evaluated the better you will feel.

    Good luck

  3. if your pediatrician says ignore it maybe it has nothing to do with her health.. but maybe this is her habits. Just try to observe her more.. and go research to understand why she is doing this. or everytime she does this give her a good hug and say i love you.
