Question:

Nervous For High School

by  |  earlier

I come from a small middle school (really small) and I am going to a huge high school. Does anyone have advice on good ways to make friends, get all my work done (I'm and honor student), make peace with the teachers, avoid the mean people and try to have fun with it??

Sorry I know that may sound stupid but I'm nervous and any advice would help.

  1. Just go in with an open mind, don't worry about making friends it will happen in time. Try to take one day at a time and it will be ok.

My suggestion is to make a schedule to allow your self the set aside time to get all your work complete and you will be all set!

Its High school, no need to stress about it, just relax and enjoy it while you can!

  2. There's no need to be nervous.

If you are in sporting activities that would be an easy way to make friends with people.

Usually you just end up cliquing to people with similar interests.

Teachers will love you if you are smart.

    Good Luck=)

  3. join clubs that interest you...that way you meet new people who share the same interests as you do.

  4. You're not the only one who feels/felt nervous as they enter high school. Well, I have some pieces of advice for yah:

Be social. try to mingle with new people instead of just staying in the corner and thinking about things. Start conversations..like your seatmate in class for instance, don't be shy to initiate a talk with her/him..If you find someone who seems alone, then go approach him and make friends with him. Then both of you just gained a friend.

With the work stuff, time management is the key to it. don't cram for homework and exams. during your free time, try to finish school works if possible so you don't have to worry about them during your leisure time... Greet your teachers when you meet in the hallway so they can remember you. Try approaching them if you need help with the lessons...

Just ignore bullies and mean people. If you try fighting back, they'll threaten you more. Or if you have offended someone unintentionally, apologize immediately to avoid conflict.

Be yourself. Don't be scared to open yourself to the world. It's normal to feel nervous but do think positive, and just have fun. High school happens once in a lifetime so enjoy! Good luck.

  6. hey i'm in your situation too! my old school had about 800 kids and it was kindergarden thru eighth grade so there were only about like...100 kids in my grade and my high school is much bigger. i do kind of know what i'm talking about when i say these things, because i have  two older siblings. ok so making friends my sister says that you should do a sport in the fall so you can meet new people there. and just be nice :). DON'T PROCRASTINATE i've done that so much and work actually counts in high school so we can't be missing any assignments! just be nice to your teachers (not a total teachers pet) but respect them and do all your work they will like you. i'm not exactly sure how to avoid the mean people maybe just use your own judgement and figure out who you should be hanging out with and who you shouldn't. people say high school is so much better then middle school, so we're going to have a blast! good luck!

  7. i'm going to be a sophomore at a really big high school too. Last year was tough but it was also REALLY fun. On the first day i got lost trying to find my classes. But i just asked someone and they told me where to go. Your first year of high school is almost the same (workwise) as 8th grade. At least for me. I found it really easy. It's not as tough as everyone says. Making friends can be hard and it can be easy. Depends who you're trying to become friends with... Just look for someone who looks nice and who you could see yourself being friends with. Say something like "omg i love your shirt! where'd you get it?" ... They will answer you and from then on you'll be friends. trust me. Something about us and clothes... :] Teachers are really nice and understanding. But they don't get as close to you as they do in middle school. It's because they have so many students it's hard to get close to everyone, so they kinda distance themselves. High school is fun. You'll love it. Hope you love high school and good luck :]
