Nervous Sun Young Yoo needs to believe in herself
Sun Young Yoo, who won the Kraft Nabisco Championship 2012, needs to overcome her nervousness in the upcoming events, as she herself said that winning her first major title was something she had never thought.
The South Korean star was thrilled when she hoisted the major trophy, but stunned her fans and players when she said that she never thought of winning.
“I didn’t think about winning today. I didn’t want to expect too much, and I didn’t want to let myself down, but I think I did better than I was thinking, so I’m very happy,” nervous Yoo said while speaking to the media at the end of the first major tournament
of the 2012 season.
Yoo, who is definitely not as strong a player as the current world number one Yani Tseng, surprised many on and off the course when she trampled almost every player in the strong field.
Analysts said that winning a major title is something most players dream of, but Yoo should not have taken the tournament like a non-major event.
The major winner said that since she did not have any hope to beat big players like Yani Tseng and Paula Creamer, she did not play with a clear plan.
South Korean I.K Kim, who finished the tournament as the runner-up, too was skeptical of her results. Kim, according to experts, looked like she did not know what was going to happen in the final moments of the event.
They said that such pessimistic attitude on the course is not good, as it lessens the importance of big events like majors.
“I was nervous the whole way, obviously on the back 9 I think I executed good shots, and I hit many putts. But, on 18, you know, I wanted to make the putt with the right speed. But coming up to it I tried to take my time, and you know, same routine,” Kim
said.
Yoo pocketed a whopping $300,000, making her profile more solid. Now, with Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, slated to begin on April 26-29, Yoo needs to work harder on her putting and swing.
The last edition of the Mobile Classic went well for the rising South Korean star, as she finished tied for the 23rd.
