Im flighing to florida from manchester on friday and im really nervous. I had a bad flight a few years ago on the same flight, even though i have flown since on shorter flights old emotions are coming back as iv not flown to florida since the bad flight. We hit very bad terbulance to the extreme that two of the cabin crew fell and hit there heads, we were told later that this was normal over that area but nobody warned us that it was even going to happen. So i was wondering if anybody had any tips for me as im not even sleeping with the worry.

  1. Nervousness is nothing out of the ordinary.

    Flying is awesomeeee

I used to hate it when i was a kid and now im a pilot for a major airline.  Turbulence happens in certain areas and trust me...turbulence CAN NOT bring a plane down...trust me

    Have a great flight

    Au revoir!

  2. Turbulence is nothing to worry about.  Those planes are built with so much attention to detail and redundancy that there is no cause for concern, even if you get struck by lightening.  All of those things were put into consideration and planned for when built.

  3. The airplanes are pretty rugged.  It sounds like a little clear air turbulence which is an occupational hazard when flying, particularly in areas subject to violent thunderstorms.

You are pretty safe, even in bad weather.  The crew should have been a little more careful and had the cabin crew strapped in, but you can't anticipate everything.

Just relax.  You needn't be nervous.  Fear is normal, but you are probably as safe on this flight as you are at home in your bed.

Good luck and have a great time in Florida.

  4. I'm sorry to hear that.

Coming home from Florida to Cardiff we hit some bad turbelence, but nothing like that. Best thing to do is to not get yourself worked up and just think of the beautiful sunshine and fun you'll be having rather than how your getting there.

Have a good time, I'm going there the end of August, cannot wait!

  5. i have this problem too. thinking of florida next year but flight putting me off. if it was so so dangerous these air stewards would be nervous wrecks but they always have a lovely cheery smile when boarding. perhaps see your doctor for something to relax you or if he wont give you anything go to a herbal shop. have a nice holiday, wish it was me!!

  6. Turbulence so sever that cabin crew are falling down is not normal.  What you experienced was a little unusually.  Flight crews will change course to avoid bad weather.  They don't intentionally fly through sever weather.  I have flown 2 million miles and only experience 1 or 2 events like you described.  You will probably never experienced that kind of event in your life time.  Not to worry.

Just keep your seat belt on when in you seat and you will be save and secure.  A little bump air never brought down an airplane.

  7. I flew to Florida in November and it was fab, no problems nothing my children preferred the longhaul flight to the shorter european ones that we normally take, I would recommend that you pop to the chemist and buy something herbal like Calm's which should help to put you at ease. A lavender pillow might help as well its not worth spoiling your holiday for.

Also meditation tapes may work I've used them when I have been really stressed. Good Luck hope this helps.
