Im going to be going on my first cruise the first week in August. Im really nervous about the boat moving around more than anythings else. I dont like to fly and I dont like when my stomach jumps. So Im not concerned at all about being sick or sinking. I just dont want to freak out when I see a huge room moving around. I hear there are stabilizers but I still get jittery when I think about it. Any ideas to help me not freak out?

  1. you cant feel it moving. there is a vibration that is somewhat soothing when you sleep. i get motion sickness over anything and didnt have a problem.

go to you tube and search for cruise ships. there are all kinds of vacationers that have posted their trips. theres even some that were on board during storms. its very interesting.

    have lots of fun!!

  2. There is very little movement on a cruise ship.  As a precaution go to your doctor and get a patch for sea sickness.  You wear it behind your ear.  Mild sedatives might be in order too if you are jittery.  The whole experience will be great notwithstanding your concerns.

  3. As everyone else has said you hardly feel the ship moving. If you do encounter rough water rest ashore the crew is keeping your safety in mind. I would pack some motion sickness medication or ginger (ginger Altoids work great) with you. Pop a pill as soon as you feel any signs of wheeziness, although i don't think you will feel anything, but just in case. Also, I have heard some people take them before any signs of wheeziness occur to be sure they don't at all.

So you don't freak out i would advise you don't go trying to look over at the sea while moving especially if you are on the top deck that might make you feel a bit funny.

I think you'll be just fine though. So just relax and try to enjoy yourself.

  4. you seriously cannot tell that the boat is moving at all!!!  the onyl time you feel anything is when the boat docks and leaves and its just a small vibration. barely detectable.

dont worry about a thing! you'll be find and rather surprised at how stable the boat is'

    have fun!

  5. last time i went on a cruise there was a hurricane on the other side of the gulf you got sea legs but after a while you got use to them...remember there was a hurricane in the gulf too.

but if you are worried about getting sick bring a sea sickness patch (or motion sickness i cant rememeber the exact name of them) but all it is is a patch that you put behind your ear or on your wrist...trust me on this one you wont be the only one...i saw atleast 30% of the people with one on

however i found it very relaxing i describe it as being rocked to sleep

  6. I had the same concern when I went on a cruise a couple of years ago... Trust me, you have nothing to worry about. The whole time I didn't feel as if I was on water when I was inside the ship (eating/sleeping mainly) and it doesn't sway/move everything around when in the water. You may feel a slight sway here and there, but it is nothing dramatic at all; it is actually pretty relaxing. It's not like sudden movements or what you see in cartoons... If it does sway  you will barely notice it and, when I went I only felt the ship sway two times out of the whole trip (was on the boat for approximately 4 days)... Basically, it was very rare for the boat to feel as if it was moving around when I went on my cruise. When I did feel it move it was when we were first leaving the dock. If you don't have motion sickness you have nothing to worry about. If you become concerned about getting motion sickness, they usually have medicine on the ship available for you to take.

I hope this helps you a little bit... A cruise is one of the most relaxing and the greatest experience I have ever had in my lifetime, I want to go again!

Hope you have a great time! :)

  7. The only time I was ever bothered by the movement onboard was during hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Of Mexico! The most I have ever felt was gentle swaying, it's kinda nice actually, one of the reasons I love being on cruises. Don't worry, it doesn't feel like being out on a little dingy!

  8. I have been on 9 and have never felt more than the vibrations the ship makes,(and boy does it make me sllep deep) You really shouldnt worry about feeling the ship move unless there are storms and even then the ships are built so you cant feel them. You can talk to your dr to get a prescription for motion sickness or buy something over the counter. They also have it available at the purser's desk if you forget to bring it. You will be having such a great time you wont even know your floating

  9. You will not see the room moving around. In fact, most of the time, you won't even feel the ship move at all. The only time my husband was bothered even a little, is while sitting in the theater at the end of the ship while he was sitting very still. Then you could feel the movement a little It does not move  a lot like a train, so most likely you will be fine. Do bring some Dramamine just in case.

  10. ive been on 2 cruises and going on my 3rd theres nothing to worry about, these cruise ships have some stuff so you wont feel it rocking, you wont see anything moving except outside, it will be a little vibration in the back because the engine but you wont feel anything bad, i love cruise but hate flying, relax and enjoy cruises are fun (plus FREE FOOD!!!!)
