I'm a senior, and now is not the time to be changing schools. I go to Liberty University, just an hour and a half away from Virginia Tech. I'm from out of state, but I have local friends who lost their friends and family members. It was a horrible tragedy. But I don't see my college stepping up to be any more secure. It's a Christian college, yes, but not everyone who goes there is a Christian. A lot of people are there b/c that's where mommy and daddy offered to pay their tuition. After Jerry Falwell died, a student's mom found bombs in his trunk. He was arrested and told police he wanted to bomb the funeral. Last year, a girl was stabbed in a bathroom in the building where all my classes were. A bathroom I use every day. One day, in chapel, they locked us in the Vines Center and Jerry Falwell's security guards took him off the stage. They wouldn't let us leave. There had been a guy walking around campus with a shotgun.
I'm just... scared. I don't know if that's stupid. They just got surveillance cameras this year. But the campus police dept isn't the best. My prof called 911 b/c a girl passed out in my psych class and they took like 25 min to get there! I've called for an escort after getting to campus late one night and having to park in a secluded lot-- took them 45 minutes to drive 1/2 a mile to pick me up. It's a small campus.
What if something happens though? We don't have metal detectors. There aren't cops stationed around campus-- just at the LUPD. Is it normal to be this paranoid about it?
