Neshaminy boys’ volleyball team defeats William Tennent on Wednesday
The Neshaminy boys’ volleyball team was able to impress the crowds, their fans as well as their coach as they made an excellent display of volleyball skills on Wednesday.
The Redskins were able to dominate the match completely as they swept the William Tennent team in a decisive fashion. Not only did the Redskins win the match by securing three back-to-back sets, they earned themselves a victory while playing against the
raised odds of being in their opponent’s home ground.
Despite the fact that they lost the match, the Panthers did not go down without putting up a fight. The first two sets of the match went close but the Redskins smothered the Panthers in the last and final set of the game.
By the time that the Redskins were celebrating their hard earned victory and the Panthers were moving out of the courts with heads hung low, the scoreboard translated the happenings of the night by displaying the following final set scores, 25-21, 25-22
and 25-14.
The beginning of the first set of the match saw both the teams knock horns with each other. The spectators were given the opportunity of watching a competitive display of volleyball from both the Redskins as well as the Panthers.
The early part of the set as well as the middle was evenly played by both the teams. Neither was letting the opponent take the lead for a long time. However, as the first set reached its final stages, the Redskins were able to push past and bag it at 25-21.
Capitalising on the momentum built by winning the first set of the match, the Redskins were able to come out strong in the second one as well.
However, the Panthers did not let the loss of the first set lessen their determination and they kept giving the Redskins a significant amount of challenge. Unfortunately, for the Panthers, they were not able to stop the Redskins from extending their lead
once they had it in the final stages of the game. The Redskins left the Panthers behind and took the second set of the match at 25-22.
After having lost the first two sets, the Panthers played the third half heartedly, making it easier for the Redskins to bag the game at 25-14.
Coach Kevin Roode complimented his team on putting on an excellent show in the following words, “That's a lot of what our defense is built on - guys getting touches on the net,” said Roode. “They were really penetrating well and blocking a lot of their shots,
so that worked out really well for us tonight. It seemed they got a hand on everything.”
