Neshaminy’s boys volleyball team sweeps Falcons, end their 64-match streak – Volleyball news
As happy as the Neshaminy’s boys volleyball team was after playing on Tuesday, the Pennsbury team was equally sad.
It was not just because the Falcons had been defeated on the home court of Neshaminy, it was because what the defeat meant to them. The loss that Pennsbury suffered in the Suburban One League matches came to them after a defeat in 2006.
The Falcons had been flying high on an impressively long winning streak that had extended to SOL matches totalling 64 in amount.
However, all the credit goes to an impressive performance that was put up by Neshaminy, who handed out a defeat to the Falcons by winning three back-to-back sets. Despite the fact that the Falcons were swept by their opponents, they did not go down without
a fight. Each set of the match was viciously contested. However, the end of every set saw Neshaminy run away with the points and grab a win for themselves.
By the time that Neshaminy started celebrating their victory over the Falcons who were moving out of the courts nursing their pride at having suffered a loss after 64 matches, the scoreboard displayed final set scores that reflected the outcome of the match
at 25-23, 25-20, 25-22.
As soon as the first set of the match kicked off, Neshaminy asserted themselves over the Falcons by taking the lead. They were able to maintain control over the court and extend their advantage till 14-5. Not letting the huge deficit work against them, the
Falcons stepped up their efforts and put on a spurt of speed that allowed them to close in the gap and come in a leading position at 22-21.
Not losing confidence, the Redskins pushed past and sealed the deal on the Falcons by winning the first set of the match at 25-23.
Winning the first set of the game kept the Redshirts energized in the second as well. They were able to perform even better and kept the pressure on the Falcons from the start until the end. Despite the fact that the Falcons did not let the Redshirts get
too comfortable, they were unable to stop them from bagging the second set at 25-20.
With two sets down and a victory essential for the Falcons if they wanted to have a chance at winning the game, Pennsbury made the third set of the game challenging for the Redshirts. However, the Redshirts proved to be unstoppable as they grabbed what turned
out to be the final set of the game at 25-22.
“Hopefully, this will help us a lot down the line in the playoffs,” said Neshaminy coach Kevin Roude, who is a Pennsbury graduate. “But it's just nice to get a win over them. They have had such a great program for so many years.”
