Neshanic Valley to host 2012 National Women's Amateur Tournament
The Neshanic Valley Golf Course has been finalised by the US Golf Association as the venue for the 2012 national women's amateur tournament.
The tournament has been serving golf by providing opportunity to amateurs to compete at the national level. This is why it is widely acknowledged for producing the finest golfers of the time.
Apart from hosting the US Women’s Amateur Public Links championship, the venue will conduct the US Men’s Amateur Public Links Championship as well. This is not the first time that the course has held the honours, as in past, it has hosted several regional
events and sectional qualifying tournaments.
Moreover, the 27-hole course was lately ranked as the 36th best municipal golf course in the country by Golfweek magazine, owing to its immaculate maintenance and standard adherence.
However, this will be the first time that a national-level tournament will be staged at the venue. In return, it will bring in more business for the course, the county and the market situated in the area.
Bob Ransone, deputy director for the Somerset County Park Commission’s Golf Division, disclosed the news that the course had been selected on Friday. He said, “Neshanic is a relatively new course, so when you think that you’re able to be selected by the
USGA (US Golf Association), it just says an awful lot about the staff and the commissioners. We think the residents of Somerset County really deserve this.”
The course had been selected two months ago, but was not announced until Friday. The USGA has formed a committee to prepare the course for the championship.
Ransone highlighted the positive impact of the event and said, “Since we’re going to host a national event, I really think it’s going to bring more play to the course, more notoriety. It’s going to be a plus for everybody.”
The tournament, which started in 1977, will take place from June 18 to 23 and is expected to attract massive media attention to the region. However, this years’ tournament would be played at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon from June 27 to
July 2.
