The former Lazio President has hailed the AC Milan defender as one of the game’s greatest, and has supported the veteran’s decision to leave he club before being ostracized by the Diavolo.

The 36-year-old recently announced his decision to leave the club, despite being offered a contract by the Devils, and suggested that American Major League Soccer could be his next destination.
The declaration brought an end to the centre-back’s two-decade long affair with Italian football, during which he won 19 major honours at club, and international level.
Cragnotti worked closely with Nesta at Lazio, and saw the player grow from a young professional to the club captain, and later an illustrious figure in Italian football.
The former Lazio chief insisted that he remembers the defender as one of the most dependable assets during his time at the club. The executive recalled that it was Dino Zoff, who included him in his team, and stated that although the Rossoneri defender was
quite young at that time, there was no hiding the tremendous talent held by the centre-back.
While talking to the press, the Italian entrepreneur said:

Cragnotti stated that Nesta’s decision to bid a timely farewell to the Diavolo is the choice of a great professional, and insisted that the Rossoneri player was right to move elsewhere, rather than wait for a definitive decline from the Milan outfit.
