What is the difference between Net and Adjusted Market Cap?

  1. Net market cap = outstanding shares * share price

    Adjusted market cap = float * share price

    The difference is that often a company will have outstanding shares that are not available for trading. (The excess is sometimes called treasury stock.)  The shares that are actually available for trading is the float.  

    Some index creators, such as Dow Jones, think using the float is more accurate.
