Netbook, Full Computer, or Camera?

I am looking at

Net book: Acer Aspire One - 400

Full Computer: Cheap 400 buck computer from best buy

Camera: Nikon d40 500 - 600

I'm into photography and am looking into it as a career

I already own a computer but am looking for anathor one for ruggedness and traveling

  1. Here is the deal.

    You want to pursue photography, so you first need a fully adjustable camera ... the D40 will do that for you

    You already have a computer, all you may need is some additional RAM (2GB is good) and maybe an additional 500 GB drive (under $80).  If you do not have a DVD burner on it, you may want to budget for one so you can burn back up DVD's of all your images.

    You will find that once you have the experience and education you need to build a photography business, your camera system will include at least two more advanced camera bodies and five or more lenses, some kind of studio lighting (usually portable) as well as a high power desktop computer and a notebook computer (not a $400 one either) for use when in the field on assignment.

    FYI, a rugged notebook is not necessary for traveling since you will be taking both it and your cameras and lenses as carry-on when flying.  I carry an off the shelf HP 6000 series notebook and a 500 GB external drive.
