Netflix and TV episodes?

I'm considering opening a Netflix account, and I was wondering about the availability of television shows through this service. Are only shows that are already out on DVD available on Netflix, or can you use the online service to watch episodes which have recently been aired on television?

You can only get TV shows that are on DVD through Netflix. But there are a lot of obscure/hard to find DVDs available on Netflix.

I've had it for a year and I think it's worth the money (plus, plans are really afforable - you can get unlimited DVDs for $9.50 a month).
