Netgear router HELP!!!!?

Question

I have been on tiscali broadband for a few years and I have an xbox 360. I wanted to connect it to the internet but my tiscali sagem modem box is usb port rather than ethernet. So i bought a netgear router and when i plug it in it is recognised as 'local are connection'. It won't connect to the internet on computer or xbox so i use the modem still. How can i connect to the internet ? Do i have to use the modem? Please help

you need the router to be a DSL router, which has a phone port to replace the modem. You then need to configure it to handle the login.

The router needs to connect with the modem then you can plug your pc and xbox to the router.
