Netherland's Pinoke defeat US U-17 women hockey team
in the second game by 5-3: USA Field Hockey News
Netherland's Pinoke defeated America’s Under-17 national women hockey team by 5-3. It was their second practice match of the International tour to Netherlands, which was played on 20 April.
In the first half, USA’s Kelcie Hromisin scored the team’s first and only goal of the half. She received a pass from a baseline and stuck a shot into the goal, opening the scores at 1-0.
Before the half break, Pinoke scored an equaliser when one of its players delivered a shot past the US' goal-keeper, Samantha Zeiders, levelling the scores at 1-1.
The first half concluded with no further additions to the score-board at 1-1.
In the second half, the host team was found dominating the field with ball possession and consistent attacks in the US defensive circle. The US had switched the goal-keeper, Zeiders with
Shannon Johnson, for the rest of the half match.
However, America’s U-17 striker, Kelley Stump, conceded the second goal both for her team and for her tour to Holland when she slotted a goal past the Pinoke goal-keeper.
By the end of the second half, the US team was trying hard to meet up the Pinoke lead of 5-2, but disappointingly missed a few potential opportunities to score.
However, with less than five minutes left on the clock, a talented US U-17 Gabrielle Major shot her team’s third and last goal of the match.
The second half closed with Pinoke scoring a total of four goals during the second half over the goal-keeper Johnson.
The match concluded with Pinoke triumphant over the US U-17 women, by 5-3.
The US team’s Head Coach, Shellie Onstead, said, “I expected a stiff competition and Pinoke delivered. This is a top team for their age group. According to their coach, they practice three
times a week and play on the weekend. With that in mind, I am happy with our performance and look to build on that tomorrow against Ireland.”
US U-17 women are required to play one more practice match against Ireland today, before the start of the 22nd DOMO International Easter Tournament.
