In the Only ODI of the Women’s European Championship at Kampong Utrecht, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 Women beat Ireland women by 2 wickets, with 12 balls remaining. The 50 over match was played on the 17
August, 2011.
After seemingly cruising to visitors’ target of 116, the Dutch team had a middle-order collapse; however, they recovered to post a narrow victory.
Netherland women made full use of their home conditions to restrict their opponents to a sluggish total, after some good collective display in the field.
In reply, the hosts started brightly and were 80 for 3 before they lost four in the space of 12 runs, which gave Ireland, a glimmer of hope.
However, they could not stop the Dutch crossing the final line, with skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Helmien-W-Rambaldo-c62196 leading from the front with a solid 38.
It was the home side, who won the toss and chose to bowl first. Their decision was the right one as Rebecca Rolfe was cleaned up by Laura Brouwers on the first ball of the match.
The Irish never really recovered from this setback as they lost wickets at regular intervals. The next to walk back to the dressing room was skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jolet-Caroline-Hartenhof-c69066.
The momentum was well with the Dutch, and they did not put their foot of the gas and continued the onslaught. They crushed the Irish’s middle order, which had just moved to 53, having lost 5 front line batters.
A late resistance from Laura Boylan (19) and innings top scorer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amy-Johanna-Kenealy-c44147 (21), assisted in the side crossing the 100 run barrier. The last two batters added 16 before perishing, leaving Kenealy stranded.
In the end Ireland made 116 in 47.5 overs, which was aided by 18 extras.
Holland’s run chase also started on a disappointing note, as Miranda Veringmeier’s stumps were shattered by Kim Garth.
However, skipper Rambaldo partnered ably with the next two batters, which help the total to 80, before Irish found a way back.
It was Kenealy , which did most of the damage for the bowling side, as she got the prized wicket of the captain. He also then removed Esther Lanser (13, the second highest scorer), and also brought Violet Wattenberg’s (0) innings to a quick end.
Elena Tice than got in the act, claiming another two, which left the hosts 92 for 7 and the match in balance.
However, Irish have themselves to blame as they conceded in total 35 extras of which 28 were wides. The late order pairings did not do much but to hang on, as the win was handed to them on a plate.
There was one run-out, which followed, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Esther-de-Lange-c56440(8) and Leonie Bennet (2), ensured their team’s passage to victory.
