http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 in their final Group B fixture at Euro 2012. The two sides will go head-to-head at Metalist Kharkiv Stadium on Sunday, June 17.
The Oranje have lost their first two group stage games, losing 1-0 to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 in their following match.
After two successive defeats, the Flying Dutchmen have to beat A Seleccao, and that too with at least a two-goal margin, and then hope that Germany emerge victorious against the Danes to ensure that the 2010 World Cup runners-up progress through to the quarter-finals.
Sneijder has expressed confidence that his side will secure the win against the Portuguese, but has admitted that they will also have to be dependent upon favourable result from the Germans.
“If we look at what we have done throughout this year, we can beat Portugal and win well, but that will depend on how we approach the match in the opening minutes. The situation is beyond difficult, but not impossible. We will see what happens in the other
match”, the Inter Milan playmaker was quoted as saying to Goal.com.
The Dutch international, who has thus far represented the Oranje in 86 matches, went on to admit that his side will have to be wary of the former Manchester United and current Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Portugal are not just Cristiano Ronaldo. The proof is that he hasn't scored a goal in the Euros yet, and I hope it stays that way on Sunday”, Sneijder added.
Netherlands entered the European Championship as one of the favourites, but are now on the brink of elimination following their two successive defeats, and Sneijder has admitted that they never expected about bowing out of the competition in the first round.
“Nobody thought during the pre-tournament camp that we would have no points after the first two games of the Euros. That was totally unexpected for us”, the former Ajax Amsterdam concluded.
