Netherlands defeat Canadian Men in second test of two-match series: 7-2 – Hockey Update
Netherlands Men’s hockey team holding Number three position in the World ranking has made it two in a row, as it clobbered the visiting Canada by five goals in the second test of the two-match series played at the Wagener stadium in Amsterdam, Netherlands
on August 14.
Though the Dutch side was flying high after making a 6-0 victory in the maiden competition, the Canadians improved their performance and succeeded to mark a couple of goals against the seven of their rivals in the hardly-fought game. Despite better show
on the field, the efforts from the visiting team of Canada were not enough to take the host team of Canada down in the preparatory game.
Both the Canadians and Dutch landed onto the field in quite offensive way, as the former one wanted to break the curse over failures while the latter one wanted to continue their winning streak. However, the visitors showed an effective defence in the first
ten minutes and did not allow the strikers from home to make a penetration. With 12 minutes into the match, the Dutch squad carried out an action and created first short corner of the day. However, the shot went over the crossbars and they missed a golden
chance to get into the scoring.
Soon after the three minutes, the home side earned second penalty corner but to no avail. David Carter, the Canadian custodian was brave enough to deny the attack. He made a dive to clear the ball from the 25-yard line. The visitors maintained their defence
in the later part and held back their momentum in the play.
After missing plenty of chances, the Dutch team started a fast paced game and marked first goal in the 25th minute of the mark through a field effort. It was not over, as the host team notched another goal in the very next minute and dominated
the field with the ball possession.
In the counter offences, the Canadian increased the speed of their game and created loads of chances for making a comeback. Scott Tupper managed to drive the ball in the defensive circle of Netherlands and managed the first goal through a powerful reverse
shot. The Canadians were working to lock the horns but the Dutch side scored another goal and regained a two-goal lead.
In the second half of play, the similar game was started from the two teams. In their fast and furious play, the Dutch team obtained a couple of goals in the very early minutes of which one scored on a penalty corner while other from the field effort.
Mark Pearson of Canada scored second goal for Canada but the competitors scored another two goals to take the lead up to five goals. It was the complete action and Dutch line-up won the game at 7-2.
