Hi!

I have a 1 year old male netherlands dwarf bunny. Over the summer, I was away and he got very fat. His diet consists of a mix of orchard grass and western timothy hay and alfalfa pellets. About once every two weeks, I give him a papaya treat, as they are supposed to help with hairballs. I know that this is what my mother fed him while I was gone, she didn't take him out of the cage very much though. I have been home for about 3 weeks and there isn't really any improvement. I haven't gotten to take him out that much either. What can i do to help him lose weight??

thanks!

  1. you should feed him as much hay as he would like, but you can cut back on his pellets a lot. There should be feeding requirements on the bag of pellets based on weight, and that should be all you feed... I use a measuring cup when I feed to make sure that my rabbit isn't getting too much. Also, when he stops growing you should switch him over to timothy pellets. Make sure he gets out as much as possible, and encourage him to play when he is out.
