NED 292/6 in 50 overs
A brilliant innings by Ryan Ten Doeschate has taken the Dutch team to a highly competitive total against three time finalists in a group B match of the World Cup being played at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vidarbha-c860 Cricket Association ground in Nagpur.
The Dutch team won the toss and opted to bat first on a flat track, unlike the first four games where the lowly ranked team looked fazed by the enormity of the occasion, they went about their task in an aggressive manner from the outset. The opening pair of Alexei Kervezee and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wesley-Barresi-c96487 played with great deal of authority taking the attack to the English bowling pair of James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
The openers were sent packing by the time the 12th over had finished yet they had got the team off to a highly impressive start of 5 runs per over.
Kervezee scored 16 while Barresi was dismissed for an impressive 29 off of only 25 balls, the right hander had struck 6 fours in his innings.
Tom Cooper and Doeschate added 78 runs for the third wicket; they kept nudging the score forward and hit some delightful boundaries in their association.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cooper-c51561 was dismissed for 47, he skied a catch which was well held by James Anderson off the bowling of Paul Collingwood.
Bas Zuiderent was a disappointment for the Dutch, he was sent packing for only a single run by Graeme Swann.
The last few batsmen gave great support to Doeschate who kept playing some delightful shots as he neared his hundred; the landmark was reached off of 98 balls.
The last few overs went in the favour of the brave Dutch team that was in full confidence especially at the back of their win in the opening match of the T20 World Championship against England in 2009.
The English team looked ragged and was all over the place making some fundamental errors; James Anderson had a horror day with the ball conceding 72 runs off 10 overs.
The most successful bowler for the POMS was Swann who gave away a measly 35 runs taking 2 wickets in the process.
