Netherlands take home Women’s 4x100m freestyle title: Day one – 2011 FINA World Championships
Netherlands took home the Women’s 4x100m freestyle title with their brilliant effort on day one of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Sunday, July 24.
The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 4x400m freestyle relay final, where Netherlands’ squad of Inge Dekker, Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Marleen Veldhuis and Femke Heemskerk snared the gold medal with a sterling time of 3 minutes and 33.96 seconds.
Meanwhile, Natalie Coughlin, Melissa Franklin, Jessica Hardy and Dana Vollmer of United States put in their best effort and captured the silver medal with a winning time of 3 minutes and 34.47 seconds. Britta Steffen, Silke Lippok, Lisa Vitting and Daniela
Schreiber of Germany took home the bronze medal with an impressive time of 3 minutes and 36.05 seconds.
China finished fourth with a time of 3 minutes and 36.36 seconds, while Australia was placed fifth in a time of 3 minutes and 36.75 seconds. Canada wound up sixth in a time of 3 minutes and 38.42 seconds, whereas, Japan settled seventh in 3 minutes and 39.55
seconds. Denmark grabbed eighth spot in a time of 3 minutes and 39.74 seconds.
Earlier, Korea’s Hwan Tae Park snagged the Men’s 400m freestyle crown with a triumphant time of 3 minutes and 42.04 seconds, while China’s Yang Sun secured silver in 3 minutes and 43.24 seconds. Germany’s Paul Biedermann grabbed the bronze medal in 3 minutes
and 44.14 seconds.
In the Women’s 400m freestyle final, Federica Pellegrini earned the gold medal with a victorious time of 4 minutes and 01.97 seconds. Great Britain’s Rebecca Adlington clinched the silver medal with an impressive time of 4 minutes and 04.01 seconds. After
the meet, Adlington said, “I'm so pleased with that swim after this morning. I was quite down after my heat as I didn't expect to swim so slowly but I picked myself up and that was so much more positive tonight.”
In the meantime, Camille Muffat of France sneaked through to secure the bronze medal with an indisputable effort of 4 minutes and 04.06 seconds.
