Netherlands v Denmark half time report
Netherlands 0 Denmark 0
The Netherland’s were left frustrated by Denmark at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg during an open encounter which saw several decent chances for both sides.
Following a cagey start, it was the Netherlands who enjoyed more of the ball in the opening stages and took the game to their Danish opponents
Denmark’s defence remained solid and resolute, though, blocking a succession of shots from the Oranje. Rafael Van der Vaart went close on two separate occasions in the first half, but failed to test Thomas Sorensen.
After continuing to dominate possession, the Netherland’s were then handed a huge scare on the 26th minute when Nicklas Bendtner headed agonisingly wide from a Dennis Rommedahl cross. It was Denmark’s best chance of the first half and one which the Arsenal forward really should have converted; instead it came off his shoulder and trickled harmlessly wide.
This opportunity clearly gave Morten Olsen’s side a much needed dose of confidence, and they went close again through Rommedahl and Thomas Kahlenberg before the interval.
After containing the likes of Robin van Persie and Wesley Sneijder so expertly and threatening to score on several occasions, Denmark will feel they now have a realistic chance of pulling off one of the shocks of the 2010 World Cup so far.
