Netherlands upset http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 to reach to the top of Group A after emerging winners in a nail-biting match of the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition, played at the Sportpark Thurlede, Schiedam, on May 28, 2012.
Lancashire dominated the best part of the game but were pegged back in the final stages by Netherland’s last pairing of Tim http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mirza-Ahsan-Jamil-Baig-c76366, who held nerves to help their side earn victory with just two balls to spare.
The visitors decided to bat first and were on course to pile on a substantial total, following an impressive opening stand between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-Croft-c2583, carried the momentum forward, with the latter bludgeoning his way to 77, which included 10 fours and a six.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pieter-Marinus-Seelaar-c82273 in the 20th over, after which Karl Brown and Croft put together a rapid stand of 72 – taking the team total to 199. However, a dramatic late order collapse saw the final six batters contributing a combined total of 16, leaving the Lancs skipper to consolidate the innings with 55.
From being 200 for 3, the visitors posted just 236, bowled out in 39.4 overs with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Swart-c76222 and Jamil bagging four wickets each.
In reply, the Dutch also started briskly, with their openers, Stephen Myburgh (34) and Swart (41), adding 83 in the first 10 overs. Both fell in quick succession but the middle-order chipped in significantly – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cameron-Borgas-c1212 (30) and Wesley Barresi (26), all scoring at a brisk pace.
However, their wickets paved way for tense finish and while there was a 36-run cameo from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472.
It wasn’t to be though, as the later order rallied on – Gugten, coming in at 10, scored a run-a-ball 15, and was given the strike by the last man Jamil (3) - both of whom ensuring that their side completed victory in 39.4 overs.
It meant that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Parry-c2573’s efforts of 4 for 29 went in vain with his side now placed fourth on the points table.
