Netminder Tuukka Rask out of Boston Bruins road trip to Toronto with lower-body injury-NHL News
Boston Bruins are heading to Toronto on the road trip for Tuesday night game without their star netminder, Tuukka Rask, who is out of the team with an anonymous lower body injury.
Rask got injured in the game against New York Islanders on Saturday, March 03, 2012.
His injury had come into 10th minute in second period of the game when he attempted to make split save and fell on the ice.
He was taken to the sidelines and appeared to have suffered a lower body injury. The player did not return for the rest of the game and is still out nursing the injury.
Tim Thomas, who kept the net in absence of Rask on the weekend’s game, will likely be accompanying the team to Toronto.
Bruins had lost the game with three goals to two. By the time the goaltender left, the match was tied, 1-1. Rask was able to save 11 out of 12 shots.
Now the coach confirmed the goaltender will be out of the team for the upcoming trip, but he did not specify the exact nature of the injury and the player’s recovery status.
His colleague, Tyler Seguin, said:
"It's really hard to watch. (Rask) is one of the hardest working players on our team with practices and what not and even if he's playing on a game day, he's still taking shootouts after practices. To see a bad bounce like that and see him go down and have
to come out of the game isn't something any teammate wants to see."
Left wing, Daniel Paille, is another Bruins’ player who suffered an unknown injury in the third period of the game and sat out for the remaining part.
He was left out of the team on Sunday and the coach has now confirmed him to be day-to-day in his recovery.
Bruins said that they have called the forward, Lane MacDermid, and netminder, Michael Hutchinson, from their affiliate team in the American Hockey League (NHL) as backup to the injured players. They were seen in the team’s gears during Sunday’s game and
will be heading to Toronto.
Meanwhile, the team has received some good news from the injury front of the defenseman, Johnny Boychuk, who returned to the side from a mild concussion and played for about 20 minutes against Islanders.
The player said:
"It felt pretty good, just to get back into the groove of things. To just get out there and do the simple things."
Boychuk who is returning from a mild concussion was strictly asked to leave the side anytime he experienced symptoms during the game. Fortunately, he did not feel anything during his part in the game and appeared to be healthy and fit throughout.
