Luis Neto wants Zenit St. Petersburg to defeat Anzhi Makhachkala in the semi-final of the domestic cup and has warned his side against Samuel Eto’o, Willian and Lacina Traore
Zenit St. Petersburg managed to reach the semi-final of the Russian Cup after defeating Kuban Krasnodar on a penalty shoot-out last month. Luciano Spalletti’s men will now face Anzhi Makhachkala in the round-of-four of the domestic
cup at Petrovsky stadium.
Luis Neto, who joined the defending Russian Premier League champions from Siena last year, has urged his side to defeat the mega rich Dagestani club to reach the final of the cup tournament.
The St. Petersburg club managed to record successive league draws against Guus Hiddink’s side earlier this season. However, they certainly have a metal edge over them, having defeated them by a 2-3 score line in the round-of-16
of the same tournament back in 2011.
Neto went on to acknowledge that Anzhi are a tough side and will give them tough time despite their home advantage. However, he assured the fans of reaching the later stages of the cup tournament.
“Anzhi are definitely a good team, which began the second part of the season quite brilliantly. Then they stumbled a couple of times, and we caught up with them.
“In the Cup, they will do anything to reach the final just like us. We're playing at home, this should be an advantage.
“Most importantly - we need to understand the responsibility that is inherent in such matches. We should completely concentrate and not allow the opposition to create something special.
“Of course, they have wonderful players and each of them alone can decide the fate of the match,” The former Nacional man was quoted as saying.
