Hi all,

I want to know the exact tamil name for Nettle leaf.

I saw wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nettle

but there is no tamil name given anywhere in internet.

So if you know then please help me finding the real tamil name of Nettle Leaf.

        The herbs is common in India and is widely used especially in south

        india, as can be seen by number of names in local languages.

        Indian Nettle:(Local Names)

    The leaves of this herb are used for treating vomiting, bronchitis,

    pneumonia and asthma. It is also used to treat cold and cough and for

    killing intestinal worms.

    The leaves are used as food, the same way as leafy green vegetables,

    especially in Rajastan. It is also used for sprouting paddy faster

    and also to make them pest resistant (especially the red spot

    disease).

    The herb is an irritant to the gastro-intestinal mucous membrane. It

    acts reflexly through the stomach in small doses; it also acts as an

    expectorant, in larger doses, as an emetic. This drug has also been

    used as a laxative and anthelmintic.It can be summarised as having

    Cathartic, Anthelmintic, expectorant, emetic, anodyne and hypnotic

    properties.

    The herb has a marked action on the alimentary canal and respiratory

    organs. It is indicated in incipient phthisis, with hard, racking

    It has been found to act upon the respiratory organs, inducing Dry

    cough, followed by spitting of blood, which is its only

    characteristic, this having been repeatedly verified by its prompt

    cure of haemoptysis. According to one herbalist, it is indicated when

    there is expectoration of pure blood in the morning, and dark lumps

    of clotted blood in the evening.

    Take dry ginger (Zingerber officinale) rhizomes, Coleus aromaticus

    benth (50 g), Kuppaimeni leaves (Acalypha indica) (a handful of

    leaves) and Clome gynandra leaves (one handful) and grind all of

    these and mix with rice water and give it to the animal. This will

    take care of weakness in the leg of animal.

    Extract the juice of Thumbai leaves (Leucas aspera) and Kuppaimeni

    leaves (Acalypha indica) and thrust it into the a**s of the animal

    through a papaya stem and immediately the animal will be healed of

    constipation.

    Swelling on the neck

    Take the leaves of Kovai (Coccinia grandis(h) Schrader) and squeeze

    it to extract the juice. Add this to castor oil and apply this on the

    animal's neck for four days and it will get healed.

    Rheumatism in animals

    Take leaves of Surai (Zizyphus oenoplia) (one handful) and a few

    rhizomes of dry ginger (Zingiber officinale), Thippili (Pipper

    longum) and Garlic (Allium sativum) and grind it to a paste and mix

    it in water and give it to the animal till it is relieved of pain.

    Grind paddy (Oriza sativa) seeds (one handful) and manjal (Dodonea

    viscose) into a paste and then apply on the swollen area.

    Sprain in babies

    Daub the gingely oil (Sesamum indicum) and tamarind (Tamarindus

    indica) leaves on the baby. Put the baby immediately into the cradle

    and twist the cradle a number of times. The baby is relieved of the

    sprain. In South India, cradle is made from cloth and hung from a

    hook put in ceiling. Tamarind is known to be an enemy of joint pains,

    swellings etc, but here we see how it relieves sprain!
