  1. it is the same thing....it is always best to research any herbs or supplements BEFORE you take them

  2. Yes it is the stinging nettle that is used to make tea but the sting is removed upon drying or boiling the fresh leaves. I drink the tea but use prepared tea bags. Its quite an acquired taste but once you get used to it you will find it quite refreshing. When you drink it you may notice that you go to the bathroom more often and this is normal as it is mildly (as opposed to pharmaceutical preparations) diuretic.

If you ever get hives, use cooled wet nettle tea bags and squeeze out the contents over the area and spread this. It should help as nettles contain natural anti-histamine substances. Also drink the tea for that.

The root of the stinging nettle is great for the health of the prostate gland...for more info:

You can use the young leaves instead of spinach in recipes. In Victorian England and even up until WWII, Nettle Beer was a popular beverage.

Very nutritious but avoid nettles growing around areas of heavy traffic congestion because of possible heavy metal contamination.

    Best wishes.

  3. Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) IS what you're going to use.  And brewing a tea w/ nettles will destroy the stinging aspect, so don't worry about that.  You can also eat the greens--they're one of the most nutritious plants in the natural world.  Makes great soup, too.  Cream of nettle is a rite of spring in this household.  You can also use the water you cook the nettles in as a rinse/nutritive tonic for your hair.  Susun Weed has the best section on nettles I've ever read in her book Healing Wise.  Get yourself a copy!  It's excellent.

  4. if you boil stinging nettle I believe it softens the prickers
