My network hub is some old thing that runs on 10mb/s speeds

My network router is a new netgear one

My network is connected like this

Wall--Modem--Hub-My Comp

(out from hub)---^--Network router with tons of other comps

why is it that when i connect through the way i have now, it is a 10mb/s connection, and the download speeds are slow.

attaching my computer to the router shows a 100mb/s connection and download speeds are fast

want to know, please and thanks

  1. You are experiencing slower speeds when attached to the HUB is because the HUB can only transmit data at 10MB/s your router supports transmitting data at 100MB/s, Pls replace ur hub with swtich . For hub how many Pcs U have connected. I suggest u to go for enhance cat5 cable so that ur network & also ur download will shoot up.

  2. You are experiencing slower speeds when attached to the HUB is because the HUB can only transmit data at 10MB/s and throttles the speed but seeing your router supports transmitting data at 100MB/s, you experience faster downloads. What I would suggest is upgrading your HUB to one that provides the same capacity as your router. I assume your network cards support 10/100MB/s data transmissions.
