  1. hubs have fixed speeds. a 100Mb/s connection on a 10Mb/s hub will slow it down to 10Mb/s.

    switches allow for mixed speed connections. you'll be limited only by the speed of the computer you're connecting to. if you connect to a 1000Mb/s connected computer and you have the same speed connection then you'll get full bandwidth. if you connect to a 10Mb/s computer then you'll be limited by that speed.

    if you were on the 10Mb/s hub then you'll all be running only at 10Mb/s no matter who you connect to.

    router allow for internet connection sharing. it routes traffice to the WAN (internet). most are switches also.


  2. A hub enables multiple connections on a network.

    A switch adds automatic collision control to a hub.

    A router may include a switch but adds the capability of logically controlling and directing traffic between different subnets.
