  1. Are you using wired or wireless?  I assume your network is using DHCP.  Did you configure the system to use DHCP on the primary network adapter when you initially installed?

If it's a wired connection, make sure the link led is lit on the port.  Then su to root and type 'ifconfig'.  Look for eth0.  It should say something like "UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST" in there.  UP and RUNNING must be there before anything else will work.  Now look at "inet addr:x*x.x*x.x*x"  This is your IP address.  If it's 169.254.x.x, then that means DHCP is enabled but it did not get an address from a dhcp server (which will be your gateway/router or isp).   If there is no address, then it's configured for static but no static address was assigned.  To configure your network interface use one of the following:

    system-config-network-gui

    system-config-network-tui

Use the first if you have X working.

  2. Sir, Never used Fedora8. Trying it on our VirtualBox to see bow it can be done. Actually it should be easy to set it up. If fedora is not picking up an ip address via a dhcp server on the network then u need to assign a statick ip address.  with ur router ip as gateway and ur ISPs primary and sec DNS servers
