Former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Gunter Netzer has admitted that it was a brilliant decision by the club to sign Heynckes as manager.
Bayern Munich’s performances this season have been in complete contrast to their displays in the previous campaign. They are currently leading the Bundesliga standings table ahead of the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Schalke whereas
at the same time last year, they were trailing the Borussians with a staggering 16 points.
It has been a massive improvement and credit should be given to new manager Jupp Heynckes for making it possible. The tactician has had an immediate impact on the side and has guided them to the top of the table in the league,
the knock-out stages of the UEFA Champions League and the quarter-final of the German Cup thus far.
Netzer insisted that Jupp Heynckes is a brilliant coach and claimed that the former Monchengladbach striker has all the traits of an ideal coach. He insisted that Heynckes has great understanding of the game and he reads the opposition’s
tactics quite well.
“I know Jupp well and he is a great guy and a great coach. He has a flawless character, a great understanding of football and excellent interpersonal skills - he is the ideal coach,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former German international hailed the Bayern Munich manager and insisted that he is the right man to take the club to the Bundesliga title at the end of the season. He claimed that the club has played a ‘masterstroke’ in bringing
the manger to the Allianz Arena.
“To have found Jupp Heynckes was ideal (for Bayern). It was amazing. He was the right man after (Jurgen) Klinsmann and if they had got him earlier, then they would have won the title (that year). It was a masterstroke,” he concluded.
Bayer Munich have been in prime form this year and their performances have been lauded by many this year. The Bavarian giants have a three point lead over current champions Borussia Dortmund as they go into the winter break. Their
next opponent would be Borussia Monchengladbach at the Borussia Park on Friday, January 20.
