When ethanol and acetone are neutralized with sodium bicarbonate, what would the neutralization reaction be?

  1. do u think ethanol and acetone are neutralized by sod. bicarbonate(a weak base)?dont u know that ethanol is a v.weak acid,even than water?kindly up-date ur studies abt this


  2. There is no way it would happen

    ethanol is not a strong acid (it doesn't even turn limus paper pink)

    and if ethanol isn't strong, acetone will never be (it 's even weaker)

    On the other hand, NaHCO3 is no a strong base (the HCO3- is a very very weak base)

    So neither of them will be neutralized
