I have a 16 yr. old teen daughter whom secretly stopped taking her pills and became pregnant. I'm fully supportive of her in that area as you cant put the bun back in the oven. However she is looking at a full plate...wish she would of listen to start with. Okay.. so her and the father is getting married and she wants to wait until after the babies born to take her G.E.D since she I'm having her attend parenting classes and others as well to help her learn. I personally would like to see her stay in school. I know how hard it will be for her to get a good job let alone with being young and a family. Not saying she cant do it. Question being Since she will be emancipated due to marriage does she have that right to wait to go to school, or does she still all under the same laws as regular non emancipated students? I looked in the statutes but I cant ty the school and law together. I guess I dont want another surprize and get my hopes up that she's gotta attend and then find out because of her being married she dont. Thank you for your help!

  1. First, under Nevada law, a married minor is not automatically emancipated. Once married, she can file for emancipation in the local court. Second, there is no blanket exception for emancipated minors to compulsory education laws, but a minor who has completed 8th grade can petition the court to excuse him/herself from school or someone over 14 can write to the district requesting exemption if he/she has to support him/herself.
