Nevada State Athletic Commission issues medical suspensions to 15 UFC 143 brawlers – UFC news
The Ultimate Fighting championship (UFC) as per the athlete safety guidelines set by athletic commissions, in collaboration with the notification issued by Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), put forth names of 15 brawlers who have been issued medical
suspensions after receiving injuries in UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit pay-per-view.
UFC follows this norm and gives ample time to all those fighters who have received injuries.
On Saturday February 4, 2012 UFC presented its special edition in Mandalay Bay Events Center situated in Las Vegas, Nevada. The whole event was a brutal clash between people who do their job the best.
NSAC has after careful assessment issued the details along with the time period of suspension. The total numbers of fighters suspended are 15 and interestingly do not include Nick Diaz, the main event fighter who took a severe beating from the knees and
fists of Carlos Condit and eventually lost a match by unanimous decision.
Carlos Condit, the main event winner, has been suspended till March 16, 2012 with the stipulation of no contract before February 26 on receiving a right cheek laceration. Fabricio Werdum, the man who graciously received Roy Nelson by his powerful knees to
the latter’s face has been suspended till August 3. A six month suspension has been ordered because of possible right quadriceps contusion. If Werdum heals his injury early, the suspension will be reduced to March 6 along with a condition of no contract till
February 26.
Fabricio is joined by six other brawlers who because of their substantive injuries are advised a six month suspension. Ed Herman and Clifford Starks who took on each other in the middleweight bout collected a six month suspension that is till August 3.
Ed Herman, who won the bout with a submission manoeuvre, will now take care of his hand injuries. Clifford Starks received a fourth digit left hand injury. Herman can comeback early on March 6 if he is denoted okay by the specialists.
Matt Riddle, Henry Martinez, Edwin Figueroa, and Michael Kuiper also received a six month suspension till August 3. Matt received a broken right finger, Henry most probably injured his right foot, Edwin suffered a groin injury and Michael wounded his left
foot. The above four have been given a leverage to make a comeback on March 6 if their respective physicians clear them of the sustained injuries.
Alex Caceres, Scott Jorgensen, and Mike Pierce are facing the same fate since they have been ordered to stay out of the ring till March 6, 2012, with the further stipulation of making no contract until February 26. Mike Pierce got a right eye laceration
whereas the injuries of the remaining two are either unknown or not disclosed.
Roy Nelson, who received a severe forehead laceration and Chris Cope will remain outside the octagon till April 5. Max Holloway on collecting a right eye contusion has been ordered to stay out of the ring till February 26 and no contract till February 19.
Dan Stittgen, the 15th medical suspension will not appear in the ring till March 21, 2012.
